T-Roc Oil Warning System Glitch Points to Faulty Sensor

My 2018 T-Roc is showing multiple warnings including the oil pressure light and error messages in the speedometer. Regular car maintenance shows proper oil levels, yet the warnings persist. The symptoms point toward a faulty oil sensor or oil detection system. Has anyone dealt with similar automotive oil system warnings? Looking to understand if replacing the oil level sensor resolved these issues and what the repair process involved. Curious about repair costs and workshop time needed to fix this. Any insights from those who experienced and resolved this specific problem would help me evaluate my next steps.

I had a nearly identical issue with my 2016 VW Golf with the same engine configuration. As someone with moderate experience working on cars, I initially tried basic diagnostics but quickly realized this needed professional attention. The engine oil pressure warning is something you should not ignore, even when oil levels check out fine. In my case, the automotive oil monitoring system was triggering false alarms due to a faulty connection at the oil sensor plug. The workshop found that moisture had corroded the connector, causing intermittent signal issues. The repair took about 1.5 hours. They cleaned the connections, replaced the damaged plug, and performed a full system diagnostic to ensure the oil monitoring system was functioning correctly. Total cost was 95€, which included labor and parts. Before offering more specific advice, could you share: Engine size and type, Current mileage, When did these warnings first appear, Are the warnings constant or intermittent, Have you noticed any unusual engine sounds This information would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced and whether the same solution might work for you. Remember that continuing to drive with oil pressure warnings could risk serious engine damage, even if actual oil levels are fine. The oil signal system is a critical safety feature that should not be ignored.

Latest service was done at 91000km and included complete oil change. The issue is still happening even after the scheduled maintenance. The problem started showing up about 2 weeks ago, always after driving for at least 15 minutes. The oil pressure warning appears consistently during every trip after the engine warms up. The engine runs smoothly without unusual sounds, but I am concerned about potential damage to the engine oil system. I am planning to take it to a workshop this week, but wanted to get insights from others who faced similar oil sensor problems first. I appreciate the detailed response about the connector issue. Did your mechanic mention any other common causes for false oil detection warnings? Also wondering if this could be related to the recent oil change performed during maintenance.

Thanks for the additional details. Your symptoms match my experience closely, especially the timing of warnings after warm-up. After my initial repair, I learned these oil sensor issues can stem from several causes beyond just connector problems. In my case, the workshop also checked the oil pressure sensor itself, as these components often wear out around 90000-100000km. While my issue was resolved with the connector repair, the mechanic explained that oil monitoring systems can also trigger warnings due to: Partially blocked oil passages affecting pressure readings, Internal wear in the oil pressure sensor, Wiring harness damage between sensor and ECU, Oil viscosity issues after a recent oil change Since your problems started after maintenance, have them verify the oil type matches manufacturer specs. Wrong oil viscosity can confuse the engine oil monitoring system. The repair costs can vary from 90-300€ depending on whether just cleaning/reconnecting is needed or if the sensor requires replacement. My 95€ repair was fortunately just the connector, but a full sensor replacement would have been around 250€. The consistent nature of your warnings after warm-up strongly suggests a sensor or signal issue rather than an actual oil pressure problem, matching the pattern I experienced. Still, getting it checked promptly is crucial for engine protection.

Engine is 1.5 TSI with about 95000km now. Thanks for bringing up the oil viscosity point, I will check the maintenance records to verify the correct oil type was used. Given the identical timing of warnings appearing after warm-up, this really sounds like the same sensor issue you experienced. Especially since everything else with the engine seems normal and oil levels are correct. I have scheduled a workshop visit for tomorrow morning. Will ask them to specifically check the sensor connections and wiring first, since that could be a simpler fix around 100€ rather than going straight to full sensor replacement at 250€+. The information about checking oil passages and potential wiring harness damage is also helpful, will mention these points to the mechanic as possible areas to investigate if the connector cleaning doesn't resolve the faulty sensor signals. Will update once I know more after the workshop visit. For now, I am avoiding any longer trips until the oil detection system is properly diagnosed and repaired.
