Tacoma auxiliary heater issue

Hi, I'm having an auxiliary heater issue with my 2003 Toyota Tacoma with a gasoline engine. The parking heater refuses to activate, and I'm seeing an error stored in the error memory. I suspect a defective glow plug might be the culprit based on some initial diagnostics. Has anyone else encountered this issue? I'm trying to gauge the complexity of the repair before diving in.

I am sorry to hear about the issues you are experiencing with your Toyota Tacoma. I understand that the parking heater cannot be activated. Has the coolant level been checked for leaks? I would also recommend that the temperature sensor is checked.

Thank you for your reply. I did verify the coolant level and it appears to be normal, so I don't think I have a coolant leak. Regarding the temperature sensor, could a faulty reading prevent the heater from activating? I am not sure where to find the sensor and how to test it.

A faulty temperature sensor could definitely cause the system to not activate the heater as a preventative measure. Locating and testing the sensor might require specialized tools and knowledge. Based on your initial diagnosis of a defective glow plug and the added symptom of the parking heater not activating, I would recommend getting it checked out by a certified workshop.

Understood. Thank you for confirming that the temperature sensor could also be the source of the problem. I have decided to take it to a workshop; they have confirmed that a defective glow plug was the reason why the parking heater could not be activated. They have quoted me 440€ for the repair. Thanks again!
