Tacoma Hybrid Engine Stalling Power Loss

I'm experiencing an issue with my 2023 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid. At 188835 km, the check engine light is on, and the engine occasionally stalls when idling. I've also noticed a significant reduction in engine power. I suspected a fuel issue, but I am unsure how to proceed. Any thoughts?

Hey there, that sounds like a real pain! Check engine light, stalling, and power loss definitely point towards fuel delivery problems. Since it's a hybrid, the fuel system is a bit more complex. Have you noticed any unusual noises coming from the fuel tank area, particularly when you first start the truck? Also, do you know if the error code relates to the fuel pressure?

Thank you for your response. I haven't specifically listened for noises near the fuel tank during startup, but I will do so tomorrow morning. Regarding the error code, I don't have a scanner myself. Is it essential to know the precise code before taking it to a mechanic?

Knowing the code would definitely help, but it's not strictly essential. Given the symptoms and the hybrid system, a faulty fuel volume regulator or a defective high-pressure fuel pump would be my top suspects. These can cause the issues you're seeing, especially with that mileage. Considering the complexity, I'd advise against DIY repairs. A qualified mechanic with hybrid experience is your best bet. They can properly diagnose the issue and ensure the hybrid system isn't negatively affected. Get it checked out soon before it gets worse. I'd estimate around 1500€ to repair.

I appreciate your thorough advice. I followed your suggestion and took the Tacoma to a trusted mechanic. After diagnostics, it was indeed the fuel volume regulator, traced back to a failing high-pressure pump as you suspected. The repair cost was 1510€, matching your estimate. The truck is now running smoothly again. Thanks!
