Tacuma Sunroof Initialization Error

I'm having a nightmare with my 2004 Chevrolet Tacuma (gasoline engine). The sunroof is throwing up an 'initialization error'. The sunblind gets stuck, and now the whole convertible top won't open or close. Plus, the sunblind doesn't retract or extend properly anymore. I suspect it might be because of some coding done on the car recently. Has anyone else had this?

Summary of the thread

A 2004 Chevrolet Tacuma owner experienced a sunroof initialization error, causing the sunblind to malfunction and the convertible top to become inoperative. The issue was suspected to be related to recent coding changes. A suggested solution involved resetting the sunroof control module and checking the wiring connections. Ultimately, a workshop visit was necessary for a reset and recoding, resolving the problem.

I had something very similar happen with my Tacuma. Did you try resetting the sunroof control module? Sometimes a glitch in the system can cause these symptoms. It's worth checking the wiring harness and connections to the sunroof motor too, ensuring everything is secure and free from corrosion. Give that a shot before anything else.

Thanks! Where exactly is the sunroof control module located? And is it easy to get to, or do I need to take half the car apart?

On the Tacuma, the sunroof control module is typically located behind the interior light or near the sunroof motor itself. Access can vary, but usually involves removing the interior light fixture or the headliner around the sunroof opening. Proceed with caution, as forcing any panels can damage them. However, since you mentioned recent coding, a diagnostic scan might pinpoint the exact issue before you start disassembling anything. In my case, a trip to the workshop was unavoidable; it’s best to have it properly diagnosed and potentially reprogrammed.

Thanks a lot for the advice! It turned out you were right, it needed a reset at the workshop, and they recoded it. Cost me 75€, but at least it's working again.
