Tahoe low coolant mystery

I'm having a strange issue with my 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe with a gasoline engine. The check engine light keeps coming on, and there's an error stored related to low coolant level. The car has 104773 km on it. I checked the coolant reservoir, and it's low. I haven't noticed any leaks on the ground, and the engine temperature seems normal. Could this be a bigger problem than just needing to top it off?

Summary of the thread

A 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe owner experienced a recurring check engine light and low coolant level error, despite no visible leaks or engine overheating. The issue was suspected to be a slow leak, possibly from the water pump, as similar symptoms were noted by another person with a different vehicle. Upon inspection, a small leak at the water pump was confirmed and repaired, resolving the problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

That's a bummer! I had a similar issue with my old Volvo. The coolant light kept popping up, and I was constantly adding radiator fluid. Turned out to be a slow leak in the water pump. Is your cooling fan running okay? Engine overheating can cause the coolant to evaporate faster.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't noticed any engine overheating, and the fan seems to be working. But the water pump issue is interesting. How did you figure out it was the water pump in your Volvo? Was it leaking visibly, or did you have other symptoms?

No visible leaks at first, that's what made it so annoying. Eventually, I noticed a slight pinkish residue around the water pump housing. But honestly, it took a while to get there. I'd say, just keep an eye on it, but if you're constantly topping off the coolant, it's probably best to have a workshop take a look before it becomes a bigger, more expensive problem. Could even be the head gasket, fingers crossed it isn't!

Thanks a lot for the advice! I'll definitely keep an eye out for any residue and get it checked out by a mechanic soon. Turns out it was a small leak at the water pump, they fixed it for 52€. Appreciate the help!
