Tailgate of the Ford Mondeo 2006 does not open: Possible defect in the Hall sensor

Hey guys, I have a problem with my 2006 Ford Mondeo (gasoline engine, mileage of 144074 km). The tailgate no longer opens automatically and there is a warning light on the speedometer. I'm afraid it's a Hall sensor defect on the tailgate. Have any of you ever had something similar? How was it with your mechanic? I would like your opinions and experiences before my last unpleasant visit to the garage. Thanks in advance!

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2003 Ford Focus. It turned out that the control unit was defective. It wasn't a huge drama though, more of an annoyance. The first time my warning light came on and my tailgate stopped opening automatically, I thought there was just a minor fault. The mechanic had to replace the control unit to fix the problem. A fault in the control unit can lead to various symptoms, including this exact problem with the tailgate. After replacing the control unit, everything ran smoothly again. Hope this helps you a little. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for the info! Can you remember what you paid to replace the ECU back then? And has anything similar come up again since then or is everything running smoothly now? Thanks for your help!

Sure, I can still remember that! Replacing the control unit cost a whopping 1000 euros back then, but that was a while ago. But let's put the costs aside for a moment. Since the visit to the mechanic, everything has been running perfectly again! The defect in the Hall sensor on the tailgate was repaired and since then there have been no further problems with the car. It was expensive fun, but it was definitely worth it!

Thanks for the quick reply! That sounds expensive, but if it worked for you, I'm willing to give it a try. So I think it's time to visit my old friend the mechanic. Hopefully everything goes smoothly since then...thanks again for your advice and help!
