Talisman DPF Issue

I'm experiencing issues with my 2022 Renault Talisman diesel. At 89571 km, I've noticed a significant reduction in engine power and excessive smoke during acceleration. The engine light is consistently on. I suspect a defective diesel particulate filter (DPF). I have tried initiating a regeneration cycle, but it appears to be ineffective. Fuel efficiency has also decreased noticeably. Has anyone else encountered similar issues? I'm trying to avoid unnecessary expenses, but I fear a filter replacement may be imminent.

Reduced power and smoke definitely point towards DPF issues. When was the last time you had the vehicle inspected? Has the engine light flashed, or is it a steady glow? A flashing light often indicates a more critical problem requiring immediate attention to prevent further engine damage. It would also be useful to know your typical driving conditions, as frequent short journeys can prevent the DPF from properly regenerating.

The engine light is a steady glow, not flashing. An inspection was performed about 15000 km ago, with no specific DPF issues noted at that time, though they did mention the possibility of future problems given my driving style. As for driving conditions, I do a mix of highway and city driving, but probably more short city trips recently. What kind of damage are we talking about here? Is driving the car still advisable in this state?

A steady engine light is less urgent than a flashing one, but prolonged driving with a defective DPF can indeed cause further problems. Unburnt fuel can contaminate the engine oil, reducing its lubricating properties and potentially damaging the engine. Also, excessive back pressure from a blocked DPF can strain the turbocharger. I'd advise a vehicle inspection at a trusted workshop to diagnose the issue precisely. They can assess the DPF's condition and perform forced regeneration or advise on replacement if necessary.

Thanks for the insights. I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed the DPF was defective. The filter replacement cost came to 1550€. At least the car is running smoothly again. I appreciate the advice regarding potential engine damage; it prompted me to get it checked out sooner rather than later.
