Thanks for the detailed explanation of your Tiguan transmission issues. Sounds exactly like what I am experiencing with my Taos. The check engine light and rough shifting between gears are identical symptoms. My gear selector also feels unstable when moving from neutral position. Was wondering about the total cost of your transmission repair? Also curious if you encountered any other related problems since getting it fixed. I want to make sure I set realistic expectations before heading to the shop.

After seeing the mechanic, my transmission parking position problem was completely resolved. The main issue stemmed from a defective control unit that was causing the transmission sensor readings to be incorrect. The repair cost came to 1000€ for the complete fix, which included replacing and programming the affected control unit. Since the repair, the transmission has worked flawlessly, no more issues with gear changes or unstable neutral position. The gear linkage now feels solid and precise. The check engine light hasn't returned and the automatic transmission shifts smoothly through all gears. It was worth addressing promptly before any additional transmission damage could occur. The quick diagnosis and repair prevented what could have become a much more expensive transmission overhaul. I recommend getting yours checked soon, as these symptoms typically don't resolve themselves and can lead to more serious transmission issues if left unaddressed. A proper diagnosis will likely reveal similar control unit problems given the matching symptoms.

I finally took my Taos to the shop last week after getting valuable feedback here. The mechanic confirmed it was indeed similar to the Tiguan case, a faulty transmission sensor was causing the gear shifter issues and rough shifting. The total repair came to 1200€, slightly more than expected but included: New transmission control sensor, Updated shift lock mechanism, Complete transmission fluid change, Control module reprogramming The neutral position now feels stable and gear changes are smooth again. The check engine light cleared up right after the repair. Really glad I caught this early before facing a complete transmission failure. The shop mentioned these issues are somewhat common in newer models and getting it fixed promptly was the right call. The car drives like new again and I have peace of mind knowing the transmission system is properly sorted.

Had nearly identical symptoms on a 2019 VW Tiguan with the automatic transmission. The problem turned out to be a combination of a faulty transmission sensor and a worn gear linkage assembly. The check engine light and rough shifting were direct indicators of transmission failure starting to develop. When the control unit detected the faulty sensor readings, it triggered the transmission to enter a safety mode, which explained the starting issues and gear selector feeling loose. The gear linkage needed complete replacement, as the original parts showed significant premature wear. This was a serious repair that required specialized diagnostic equipment to properly identify all affected components. The park brake system was also inspected as it integrates with the transmission control unit. The repair involved: Replacing the transmission sensor unit, Installing new gear linkage components, Reprogramming the transmission control module, Full transmission fluid flush This type of issue typically requires immediate attention to prevent more extensive transmission damage. Would recommend having it diagnosed at a shop with proper transmission diagnostic capabilities, as these symptoms closely match what can become a major transmission failure if left unaddressed.
