Taurus Airbag Warning Light

Alright, gearheads, I've got a head-scratcher. My 2019 Ford Taurus with a gasoline engine is throwing me for a loop. The airbag warning lamp is constantly lit up in the speedometer. I've checked all the fuses I could find related to the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), and even tried disconnecting the battery for a while to reset the system, but no luck. The mileage is at 137449 km. Any ideas before I start tearing apart the dashboard? Could it be a faulty crash sensor?

Summary of the thread

The 2019 Ford Taurus has an airbag warning light constantly illuminated on the speedometer. Initial checks, including fuses and battery disconnection, did not resolve the issue. A possible cause could be a faulty crash sensor or a loose connection, particularly in the wiring harness under the seats. The problem was ultimately identified as a defective cable or plug connection, which was resolved at a workshop for a cost of 95€.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had a similar issue with my Taurus – though I can't recall the exact year of production. If the airbag light is on, the system is disabled, and it could be a problem with the cable or plug connection of one of the components. Have you checked the wiring harness under the seats? Sometimes, moving the seats can loosen or damage the connectors. Also, are there any other warning lights illuminated?

Good shout! I'll definitely check the wiring under the seats. That's a really helpful tip. When you say 'similar', do you mean the same exact symptoms, or just a general airbag warning? Was the issue intermittent, or constant? And if you don't mind me asking, what did it end up costing you to resolve?

By 'similar', I mean the same symptoms: constant airbag warning light. In my case, it turned out to be a loose connection in the passenger seat occupancy sensor. However, diagnosing airbag systems can be tricky and, frankly, dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. Considering the potential consequences of a malfunctioning airbag, I strongly suggest taking it to a trusted workshop for a professional diagnosis. Safety first!

Thanks, that's exactly the kind of insight I was hoping for! I took it to the workshop and they found a defective cable or plug connection. The cost was 95€, so I'm glad I didn't start poking around myself. I really appreciate the advice!
