Taurus Engine Stalling

My dad's 2001 Ford Taurus with the gasoline engine is throwing me for a loop. Mileage is only at 40523 km. The check engine light keeps popping up. I'm pretty sure it's something to do with the air valve – seems like the hose connection from the pump to the valve might be defective. Anyone else run into similar engine stalling, vacuum leak, or idle problems on these older Tauruses?

I had a similar issue on my old Opel Astra, though symptoms may vary from car to car. The check engine light and idle problems were pointing towards a intake air supply problem. Did you manage to check the air supply for obstructions, or at least considered it?

Yeah, I suspected that as well, regarding the air supply. I did a visual check, but didn't notice anything obvious. Could you elaborate a bit more on what you found on your Opel regarding the air supply? Was it a specific component or connection?

On my Opel, it turned out to be a hairline crack in a vacuum hose that was causing a major air leak. Given the location and how easily it could be missed during a visual check, I recommend having it professionally inspected with proper workshop tools. They'll be able to identify leaks more precisely and tell you where the issue is.

Thanks for the input! Thought so too. I will drive over to the repair shop and have it checked. Just got the repair bill - approx. 175€ for parts and labor. At least nothing more than a defective hose!
