Terra engine stalling at idle
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Nissan Terra diesel with 246,781 km is experiencing engine stalling at idle and a persistent check engine light. The issue is suspected to be a fuel tank ventilation system leak. A similar problem in another vehicle was linked to a faulty purge valve in the emission control system. Upon inspection by a mechanic, the problem was confirmed to be a defective activated charcoal filter in the fuel tank ventilation system, which was replaced to resolve the issue.

Thanks for the quick response! No hissing sounds that I've noticed, but I'll definitely give it another listen. Was your issue constant, or did it come and go? And did you notice any difference in fuel economy?

Mine was intermittent at first, then became more frequent. Fuel economy took a hit, not huge, but noticeable. I'd get it checked out at a workshop, they probably have the right equipment to diagnose the air flow and any potential leaks. It's most likely the activated charcoal filter.

Took your advice and brought it to my local mechanic. Turns out it WAS a defective activated charcoal filter in the fuel tank ventilation system, causing a leak. New filter installed and codes cleared. Cost me 275€ Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Interesting. I had a similar issue with my old 2014 Opel Insignia, also a diesel. Check engine light, occasional stalling. Turned out to be a faulty purge valve related to the emission control system. Do you hear any hissing sounds near the fuel tank or under the hood when the engine is running?
