Terra preheating lamp stays on

Alright Terra gurus, listen up! My 2019 Nissan Terra diesel is throwing a tantrum. Got 203824 km on the clock. The preheating lamp NEVER shuts off, the check engine light is on, and it's puffing out smoke like a chimney when I put my foot down. I suspect it's the preheating control unit that's gone bonkers. Anyone else had this issue? Where should I start looking, aside from chucking the whole car?

Summary of the thread

A 2019 Nissan Terra diesel with 203,824 km has a persistent preheating lamp issue, accompanied by a check engine light and excessive smoke. The suspected cause is a malfunctioning preheating control unit. A suggested solution is to inspect the cable and plug connections for corrosion or looseness, particularly near the engine or firewall. The problem was resolved by fixing a corroded connector, costing 95€.

Sounds familiar! Had a similar headache with my old Peugeot 308. Same symptoms, turned out to be a dodgy connection somewhere in the vehicle heater circuit. Start by checking the cable and plug connections going to the preheating control unit. Even a slightly loose or corroded connector can cause all sorts of electrical mayhem. Do you know where the heating module is located on your car model?

Cheers for the tip! A dodgy connection, eh? Yeah, I'm not entirely sure where the control unit hides on the Terra. Any hints on where to look? Is it somewhere near the engine, or more towards the firewall maybe?

Confirming my suspicion. Yeah, it's usually tucked away somewhere near the engine, often close to the glow plugs or on the firewall. If you're not comfortable poking around, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. They'll have the right tools and diagnostic equipment to pinpoint the exact problem. It cost me 95€ to fix, so it shouldn't break the bank.

Thanks a bunch for the help! You nailed it - took it to a mechanic, and it was indeed a corroded connector on the preheating control unit. 95€ later, all sorted! No more smoke, no more lights, just sweet, sweet diesel power!
