My 2019 Nissan Terra with a gasoline engine has the check engine light on, rough engine running, and a strong exhaust smell. It has clocked 169346 km. I can't remember exactly which one it was, but the garage diagnosed it pretty quickly. Given the soot, it's almost certainly something in the exhaust system. I'd get it checked out by a workshop, you might make the problem worse if you drive it and something is blocked.
