Terrano Ignition Problems

My 2002 Nissan Terrano with a gasoline engine is having a weird ignition problem. Sometimes it won't start at all, other times it starts then dies. When it does run, it feels rough, like it's misfiring. I checked the battery and fuel, but they seem fine. Could it be a fuse?

I had a similar problem with my Terrano, the symptoms were identical. Have you checked the ignition switch itself? Does the starter motor engage when you turn the key? If not, it's likely an electrical fault in the ignition switch or wiring to the starter.

When you say 'ignition switch itself,' do you mean the electrical component behind the key tumbler? Also, sometimes I think I hear a faint 'click' when I turn the key, but most of the time, there's nothing at all.

Yes, the electrical component connected to the key tumbler. The 'click' could mean the starter solenoid is engaging but not getting enough power to turn the starter motor. Given the age of our vehicles, get a workshop to check the electrical circuits and the ignition switch.

I went to a local workshop and you were right. It was an issue with the ignition. After replacing the defective parts, the car works again. The repair cost was 52€.
