Terrano rail pressure sensor fault

My 2006 Nissan Terrano diesel is giving me grief. The check engine light is on, and it's stalling at idle which is a nightmare in traffic. Plus, the power is way down. I scanned the codes, and it's screaming about a faulty rail pressure sensor signal. I'm guessing the sensor itself is toast. Anyone else battled this?

I had similar symptoms with my Terrano. The rail pressure sensor, also known as a fuel pressure sensor, is responsible for monitoring the pressure of the fuel in the fuel rail. This data is crucial for the engine control unit (ECU) to manage fuel injection properly. A defective sensor can indeed cause those symptoms. Did you notice any issues with starting the engine, or any unusual noises?

Starting is fine, thankfully. No weird noises either. Just the stalling, light, and power loss. When yours went bad, did replacing the sensor definitely fix it, or were there other things involved? Like, is it possible the fuel injection pump is also on its way out, causing the sensor to read wrong?

In my case, replacing the sensor resolved the issue completely. However, a faulty fuel injection pump could potentially cause similar symptoms by not providing the correct fuel pressure, which the sensor would then report. Given the age of our vehicles, it's certainly a possibility. Before replacing the pump, I'd advise getting the fuel pressure tested professionally to rule out other issues. It might be worth consulting a workshop.

Thanks, that's solid advice. I was hoping to avoid the shop, but you're right, fuel pressure testing is beyond my home garage capabilities. I'll take it in and have them diagnose it properly before I start throwing parts at it. It ended up being the pressure sensor indeed, cost me 240€ with labour!
