Terrano stalling idle check engine light
Summary of the thread
A 2002 Nissan Terrano with a gasoline engine was experiencing stalling at idle and a check engine light. The suspected cause was a malfunctioning tank ventilation valve, likely due to a clogged hose in the EVAP system. After taking the vehicle to a workshop, it was confirmed that clogged hoses to the purge valve were the issue. The hoses were cleaned, and a cracked hose was replaced, resolving the problem and eliminating the check engine light.

Yeah, the purge valve, sorry. I've heard those hoses can get clogged easily on these. How would I go about properly diagnosing a clogged ventilation hose?

Okay, clogged ventilation hose... It's possible. Honestly, without proper diagnostic tools, it's tough to be 100% sure. You could try visually inspecting the hoses for cracks or obvious blockages. But to really pinpoint it, a smoke test or a scan tool reading the EVAP system data would be best. If you're not comfortable with that, a trusted workshop will find this issue in no time.

Thanks for the insights! Took it to a workshop. Turns out, you were right on the money. Clogged hoses to the purge valve. They cleaned it all out and replaced a cracked hose. Cost me 175€, but the engine light is gone and it idles perfectly now!

A stalling engine AND a check engine light? Sounds rough. You mention the tank ventilation valve... you mean the purge valve? What makes you think it's that specifically? Have you checked for any obvious vacuum leaks or anything?
