Thalia Oil Pressure Warning

I'm worried about my 2003 Renault Thalia/Symbol with a diesel engine. It has about 76594 km on it. Recently, a warning light popped up, and the oil pressure warning lamp keeps lighting up. The oil level seems fine, but the oil color is darker than usual. Could this be a serious issue, like engine damage? Maybe an oil leak?

I had something similar happen with my Thalia. It sounds a bit like what I experienced when I exceeded the maintenance interval. The oil filter was completely clogged, and the oil had turned into something resembling sludge. Is there any chance you are overdue for an oil change?

Thanks for the quick response! I did forget the oil change... So, are you saying that forgetting the oil change could cause the oil pressure issues and the warning lights? What if I kept driving like this?

Yes, absolutely. Neglecting the oil change can cause exactly those symptoms. Think of it like this: your engine's oil is like its blood, and the filter is like its kidneys. If the 'kidneys' get blocked, the 'blood' gets dirty, and the 'heart' (the engine) suffers. I strongly recommend you take it to a workshop as soon as possible to avoid potential engine damage. It might be a relatively inexpensive fix now, but ignoring it could lead to much bigger problems.

You were spot on! I took it to the workshop, and it turned out that the maintenance interval was exceeded, causing the oil filter to clog and the oil to get contaminated. The total repair cost was 165€, including a new oil filter and fresh oil. Thank you for your help!
