Thalia rough running intake air temperature sensor

I've got a 2006 Renault Thalia/Symbol, gasoline engine, with 102183 km on the clock. Recently, the check engine light came on. I've noticed a definite drop in engine power, and the car's running rough, especially at idle. I hooked it up to a reader and it's throwing a code related to the intake air temperature sensor. From what I've gathered, it's likely the sensor itself is faulty. Anyone else run into this?

Oh man, that sucks! Sounds like a classic case of the gremlins sneaking into your engine bay. A faulty intake air temp sensor can definitely cause those symptoms. Is the engine running rough all the time, or just when it's cold? It's kinda like when you try to run a marathon with a stuffy nose, you know? The engine can't breathe right, messing everything up. Have you tried cleaning the sensor or checking the wiring harness for any damage?

Thanks for the reply! It seems to be rougher when cold, but it's still noticeable even after the engine warms up. I haven't tried cleaning it yet, mainly because it looks pretty crusty and I'm worried about damaging it further. Also, where exactly is the wiring harness I should be checking?

Yeah, if it's crusty, cleaning might not do much. Think of it like trying to revive a dried-out sponge; sometimes it's just gone. The wiring harness should be connected directly to the sensor itself. Follow the wires coming from the sensor and look for any breaks, frays, or loose connections. Honestly, though, based on what you're describing, especially with the cold start issues, it's probably the sensor itself. Best bet is to get it checked at a workshop, unless you're really confident in swapping it out yourself.

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. I took it to a local workshop, they confirmed it was the intake air temperature sensor. They replaced it, and the engine runs great now, with no check engine light. Total cost was 155€ including labor. I’m glad it's finally sorted!
