Town & Country MAF Sensor Issues Causing Stalling

Thanks for confirming those symptoms. Your Pacifica case matches my air intake issues perfectly. The stalling and poor fuel economy were exactly what I faced too. Got mine fixed last month after seeing similar black smoke and engine stalling. The mechanic confirmed sensor failure through testing. Air-fuel ratio went back to normal right after MAF replacement. Quick question, what was your total repair cost? Also wondering if youve had any other related issues pop up since the fix?

Your repair experience matches perfectly with mine. Since replacing the defective Mass air flow meter, all the engine stalling and performance issues completely cleared up. The repair cost was 365€, which included both parts and labor. The investment was worth it since the air-fuel ratio returned to optimal levels right away. After fixing the faulty LMM, fuel economy improved dramatically and the check engine light has stayed off. The black smoke issue disappeared completely. Its been several months now with no related problems whatsoever. The engine runs smoothly at idle and acceleration is back to normal. Having a properly working MAF sensor is crucial for engine performance, so its good you got it fixed when you did. Continuing to drive with those symptoms could have led to more expensive repairs down the line.

Appreciate the feedback on my repair. After dealing with those frustrating MAF sensor issues, I finally went to a different mechanic who properly diagnosed it. Total bill came to 380€ for parts and labor, bit steep but worth every cent. The mass air flow sensor replacement completely fixed the stalling and black smoke problems. My fuel economy is back to normal and the check engine light hasnt returned. The air intake system is working perfectly now, no more rough idle or acceleration issues. Really glad I got a second opinion and had it properly fixed. The engine runs like new again. Definitely learned my lesson about addressing these air-fuel mixture problems quickly before they cause more damage.

Had similar symptoms on a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica. Mass air flow sensor failure started with rough idling and performance decline, followed by the check engine light. The engine would stall at traffic lights and fuel consumption increased significantly. The black smoke during acceleration was a clear sign of incorrect air-fuel ratio caused by faulty MAF sensor readings. The engine computer was getting wrong data about incoming air, leading to excess fuel delivery. After replacing the MAF sensor, the issues resolved completely. The repair was straightforward but required specific diagnostic equipment to confirm the sensor failure. The job took about an hour at the shop. This is a serious issue that should not be ignored, as continued driving with incorrect air-fuel mixture can damage the catalytic converter and oxygen sensors. Before replacement, cleaning the sensor might work temporarily, but in most cases, a full replacement is the proper fix. The symptoms you describe match exactly what many Town and Country owners experience with MAF sensor problems. Getting it fixed sooner prevents additional engine management issues.
