Toyota iQ Cruise Control and Starting Issues

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2014 Toyota iQ, gasoline engine, at 195924 km. I'm getting an error stored in the error memory, and the gear selection display in the speedometer isn't working. Also, the cruise control is dead, and sometimes the engine just refuses to start. My mechanic thinks it's a bad clutch pedal switch, maybe a defective cable or plug connection. Has anyone experienced this? Any ideas before I potentially shell out money?

Summary of the thread

A 2014 Toyota iQ is experiencing issues with the cruise control, gear selection display, and intermittent starting problems. The suspected cause is a faulty clutch pedal switch, possibly due to a defective cable or plug connection. A similar case was resolved by addressing a corroded connector related to the clutch switch, and it is advised to have a professional workshop diagnose and repair the issue to ensure safety and proper functioning.

Whoa, sounds familiar! I have a Toyota iQ too, and I had similar symptoms last year. My cruise control conked out, and the car wouldn't start a couple of times. I also think the gear selection display was playing up. Did you ever get any error lights on the dash?

Yeah, I'm getting a generic error code related to the clutch switch circuit. My mechanic plugged in his code reader and saw it. Does that sound like what you had? How did you fix it? Was it definitely the clutch switch?

Yep, clutch switch was the culprit! The error code confirms it. Honestly, I'd just take it to a workshop at this point. Messing with safety mechanisms like the clutch switch can be risky. Plus, they can properly diagnose and replace it. It's a safety switch for a reason, and it interacts with the ECU. In my case, it was a corroded connector. I got the error memory deleted after the repair.

Thanks for confirming! I'll take your advice and book it into the workshop. They quoted me around 95€ for the repair, so hopefully, that will sort it. Appreciate the help diagnosing the potential cause!
