Toyota iQ transmission control unit failure

My 2013 Toyota iQ electric is showing some concerning symptoms at 72681 km. The paddle shifters are unresponsive, and the gearbox is slipping, making grinding noises during shifts. It feels like it's stuck in emergency mode, and error codes confirm a transmission control unit issue. Has anyone else experienced this?

Sounds rough. I had similar issues with my 2016 Opel Astra after about 80000 km. Shifting problems, error codes... turned out to be a faulty ECU. Were there any specific error codes logged?

Yes, the error points directly to the transmission control unit. Did replacing the ECU solve the problem on your Astra?

Replacing the ECU did the trick. It's probably best to take it to a workshop; they can properly diagnose and replace the unit. Cost me around 850€ back then.

Thanks for the insight! Took it to a shop, and you were spot on. The transmission control unit was indeed defective. Repair cost was just over 1000€.
