Toyota iQ Whistling Hissing and Power Loss

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2011 Toyota iQ (gasoline engine). The check engine light is on, and the car feels like it's lost power. Plus, there's this whistling noise that turns into a loud hissing when I accelerate. I scanned the error memory and it points to a charge air temperature sensor error. Could a defective cable or plug really cause all this?

I had a similar experience with my Toyota iQ, although mine is a bit older. Those sensors can be super sensitive. Have you checked the sensor's connection? Sometimes, it's just a loose plug causing all the mayhem. Is the temperature fluctuation very high when you scanned the live data?

Yeah, I checked the connection, seemed okay at first glance, but I didn't really give it a proper wiggle. When you say 'temperature fluctuation', what exactly should I be looking for in the live data? Like, how much variation is considered 'high'?

Well, I'm no expert, but when mine acted up, the temperature readings were jumping all over the place, way more than seemed normal compared to the outside air temp. If you are unsure better visit the workshop to properly diagnose. It could save you a headache in the long run.

Thanks for the advice! I did end up taking it to a shop. Turns out it was indeed a faulty connection to the charge air temperature sensor, just like the error code suggested. They cleaned everything up and secured the connection. Cost me 95€ but at least the iQ is running smoothly again!
