Trafic Battery Drain

Experiencing a heavy battery discharge on my 2008 Renault Trafic with a gasoline engine. Error message in the speedometer, weak lights, and an error code. Starting is difficult. Could it be the charging system?

Sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my Trafic. Weak battery, flickering lights, the whole shebang. Have you checked the battery sensor? That was the culprit for me. Apparently, when they go bad, they can cause all sorts of weird electrical problems, like the battery not charging properly. It’s worth a look before you start chasing more complicated gremlins.

Thanks! How did you diagnose the battery sensor, and where is it located? I'm reasonably handy, but not entirely familiar with it on this vehicle.

I didn’t diagnose it myself. I took it to a workshop and they identified the faulty sensor pretty quickly. I know it's somewhere near the battery, but I wouldn't want to give you wrong instructions. Given the symptoms, and that I had the exact same ones, I'd suggest taking it to a trusted mechanic to confirm the battery sensor is indeed defective. It could save you a lot of time. My repair cost was about 315€.

Thanks for your help and for sharing your experience! I took the car to my local workshop based on your recommendation. They confirmed that the battery sensor was indeed defective, causing the battery drain and all the associated symptoms. Your suggestion saved me a lot of time. The sensor has been replaced and everything is back to normal. I appreciate the support!
