Trafic engine stalling after fuel filter change
Summary of the thread
After changing the fuel filter on a 2000 Renault Trafic, the engine began stalling at idle, the check engine light came on, and there was a noticeable reduction in power. A potential cause could be an issue with the fuel pressure sensor, possibly disturbed during the filter change. Cleaning the sensor might not resolve the issue, and a professional diagnosis and replacement at a workshop are recommended to address the problem effectively.

Thanks for the quick reply! Now that you mention it, I might have bumped the pressure sensor. I wasn't paying much attention, to be honest. And yes, fuel efficiency seems to have taken a hit. Is that sensor a common culprit? What did you end up doing?

Yep, the pressure sensor is often the culprit in these cases, especially after a fuel filter change! It’s very likely you introduced an error entry. My mechanic mentioned that these sensors can be a bit temperamental. Honestly, I tried cleaning it, but it didn't solve the problem. In the end, I had to take it to a workshop to get it properly diagnosed and replaced. They sorted it out quickly. I would recommend going to the workshop.

Okay, I appreciate the advice. Sounds like a trip to the mechanic is in order. At least I have a better idea of what to expect. They replaced the pressure sensor, and the cost was about 45€. Thanks again for your help!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my Trafic. Rough idle, check engine light… sounds familiar. Did you, by any chance, mess with the pressure sensor while changing the fuel filter? It's quite sensitive. Also, have you noticed any changes in your fuel efficiency?
