Trafic Generator Failure

My 2011 Renault Trafic with a gasoline engine has generator malfunction symptoms. At 135982 km, I'm seeing reduced engine power, speedometer warning light, and hard starts. Headlights and interior lights are weak, especially at low speeds. OBD scanner points to the generator. Voltage drop, alternator, or low battery? Defective generator?

Sounds rough. I had similar issues with my Trafic: reduced power, crazy dash lights, and car wouldn't start. A new battery didn't fix it. Did you check the voltage regulator? Is the battery light on constantly, or does it flicker?

I didn't check the voltage regulator. The battery light is constantly on when the engine is running, off when the engine is off. If it was the voltage regulator, shouldn't the light be off when the engine is off? What was your experience? Was it the generator?

It was a bad generator. Constant battery light is a classic sign. If your scanner points to the generator and you have those symptoms, that's likely it. Take it to a workshop for a proper diagnosis.

I took my Trafic to a workshop. They confirmed the generator was faulty. The repair cost 960€, but the problem is resolved.
