Yeah, I'm suspecting the valves too. Currently sitting at 56915 km. Did you try any AC maintenance before taking it in, or did you go straight to the shop?

Went straight to the shop. Tried to recharge the AC but that didn't work. Turned out to be exactly as suspected. A defect in the valve that caused all the problems. My advice? Skip the DIY and get it checked out professionally before you waste time and money.

Dude, I had almost the exact same problem on my Transit! I'm betting it's those damn valves. When the AC stopped working, I thought it was a fuse or something simple, but no luck. What mileage are you at?
