Transit exhaust flap issue

I'm experiencing an issue with my 2002 Ford Transit, gasoline engine, mileage 84740 km. I have an error stored, and the exhaust noise is louder than usual, with a noisy engine running after a cold start. I suspect the exhaust flap is defective, causing a blockage. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Hey! I had similar symptoms on my Transit. Louder exhaust, especially at startup. Check the flap actuator, it might be stuck or broken. I’d bet that’s your problem.

Thanks for the tip! Was the repair complicated? Did you do it yourself, or did you have to visit a mechanic? How much did it cost to repair?

I tried to fix it myself, but access was tricky, and I didn't have the right tools. Ended up taking it to a workshop. It's probably best to get it checked out professionally to avoid messing anything else up. They'll be able to diagnose it properly and replace the actuator if needed.

Thank you for the advice. Following your recommendation, I visited a mechanic. It turned out that the exhaust flap was indeed defective. The final repair cost was 190€. Now the exhaust noise is normal again!
