Traverse Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Chevy Traverse with high mileage is experiencing issues with a warning light and black smoke during acceleration, suggesting a problem with the emission control system or exhaust back pressure sensor. The black smoke and reduced fuel economy indicate a likely issue with the exhaust back pressure sensor. It is recommended to have the vehicle checked by a professional, and replacing the defective sensor resolved the problem, eliminating the smoke.

The smoke is definitely black. And yeah, my fuel economy has gone down, and the engine feels sluggish. What was the problem with yours? Was it the pressure sensor?

Given the black smoke and poor performance, it sounds like it could be the exhaust back pressure sensor as you suspected. Although I managed to change it myself, considering the impact on vehicle emissions, I suggest you have it checked at a trusted workshop.

Thanks, that's really helpful. I took it to a mechanic, and you were right, the exhaust back pressure sensor was defective. Cost me 245€ to get it sorted, but at least no more smoke!

I also own a Chevrolet Traverse. I had a similar issue not long ago. Is the smoke black or more white/blue? Have you noticed any changes in fuel economy or engine performance?
