Trax DPF Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Chevrolet Trax diesel was experiencing a warning light, reduced engine power, smoke during acceleration, and a strong exhaust smell, suspected to be related to a DPF issue or low exhaust back pressure. The problem was identified as a faulty exhaust back pressure sensor, which can cause DPF issues and prevent proper regeneration. The solution was to replace the sensor, resolving the symptoms.

How would I check if it is trying a DPF regeneration? I'm not super technical.

You'd usually notice the engine idling higher, maybe a change in exhaust sound, but if you're getting low pressure readings, the ECU might not even be attempting a regen. Honestly, with those symptoms, get it checked at a workshop. A defective sensor can mess things up and eventually cost you more.

That's helpful. Took it to the shop; you were right, it was the exhaust back pressure sensor. Cost me 245€ to replace. All good now.

Sounds familiar. I had something similar with my Trax (petrol, though). Check your exhaust back pressure sensor. If it's faulty, it can cause all sorts of DPF issues and trigger those symptoms. Is it trying to do DPF regeneration?
