Trax Security System Dead: Alarm Control Fix Guide

Anti-theft System Problems, need Advice on Repair Costs Having trouble with my 2014 Chevy Trax (gas, 109k km). The security alarm stopped working completely and the car's throwing an error code. Last mechanic visit wasn't great, so I'm hesitant about going back. Has anyone dealt with a similar car alarm issue on their Trax? What did the repair involve and what was the cost range? Mainly concerned about getting overcharged or having unnecessary work done. Any insights appreciated.

Summary of the thread

The conversation centers around a 2014 Chevy Trax with a non-functional security alarm system and an error code. The problem is suspected to be related to the alarm control module, possibly involving corroded wiring or a failing battery backup. Suggested solutions include replacing the alarm control module, rewiring the security harness, and reprogramming the key fobs. It is advised to have the system checked by a certified dealer to avoid potential no-starts or security lockouts, as these issues can worsen over time.

Had the same security alarm issue on my 2011 Chevy Cruze last month. The power failure in the alarm control module was causing complete system shutdown. Mechanic found corroded wiring connections and a failing battery backup for the alarm system. The fix involved: Replacing the alarm control module, Rewiring the main security harness, Reprogramming the key fobs, Testing all optical locking functions (indicators/lights) It was a serious repair since the car alarm system is tied to the engine immobilizer. Without fixing it, you risk unusual no-starts and potential security lockouts. Main indicators it needs repair: Car refuses to recognize key fob, Indicator lights stop flashing when locking, Unusual battery drain issues, Security light stays on dashboard Would recommend getting it checked soon, these issues usually worsen and can leave you stranded if the immobilizer activates. A certified dealer should be able to properly diagnose the exact fault codes.

Thanks for sharing those details. Same happened to my Trax, the alarm sensor went haywire and triggered constant false alarms until the whole system died. Got it fixed at a certified shop since the alarm system is pretty complex and tied to critical functions. Just wondering, what was your final repair cost? I ended up paying quite a bit for mine and was curious to compare. Also, has everything been working smoothly since the fix? Sometimes these electrical gremlins can come back if there's an underlying issue that wasn't caught.

Got the repair done and it's working perfectly now, not a single false alarm or battery issue since. The total cost was 45€ to recode the alarm system for proper optical locking. Much cheaper than expected since it turned out to be just a programming issue rather than hardware failure. The alarm control module is now correctly synced with the immobilizer and the indicators flash properly when locking/unlocking. Really glad I didn't need the full system replacement like some cases. The certified shop made quick work of the diagnostic and fix, definitely worth going to someone who knows these security systems well. Sounds like you had a more complex issue with your sensor setup. These integrated alarm systems can get pricey when multiple components need replacing, but at least when they're fixed right, they usually stay fixed.

Finally got everything sorted with my car's security system, and thought I'd wrap this up with how it went. Took it to a certified shop after the alarm sensor kept acting up. The mechanic found the whole alarm control module was fried, plus some damaged wiring that was causing those false triggers. Total bill came to around €780, definitely not cheap, but they had to replace the module, rewire parts of the security system, and reprogram everything to work with the immobilizer. Been running smooth for three weeks now, no more unusual alarms or starting issues. Honestly wish I'd dealt with it sooner instead of hoping it would fix itself. The car alarm is properly synced now, the lights flash correctly when locking, and the key fob works perfectly. Guess sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and get these things fixed right.
