Twingo battery drain

My 2000 Renault Twingo, gasoline engine, with 189334 km has a heavily discharged battery. I'm seeing an error message, weak lights, and a weak start. I suspect a defective battery sensor.

Oh my, that sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my Twingo some time ago. The error messages and the weak lights were driving me crazy! Could you perhaps check the voltage regulator? That was the culprit in my case. Did you happen to measure the battery voltage when the engine is running?

Thanks for the advice. I haven't checked the voltage regulator specifically, but I have monitored the battery voltage. Could you elaborate on how the voltage regulator was causing your battery drain?

Certainly! It seems the regulator wasn't properly managing the charging, leading to a constant drain, even when the car was off. I ended up taking it to a workshop; they confirmed the regulator was faulty. The whole repair, including a new regulator and labor, set me back about 315€. Perhaps it's worth a visit to a professional to rule it out definitively?

I appreciate the details. Based on your experience, I will have the voltage regulator inspected. Thanks for your help.
