Twingo engine running rough

My 2012 Renault Twingo with a gasoline engine is giving me a lot of trouble. It has 130765 km on the clock. The engine is running very rough, and it even stalls sometimes when I'm idling at a red light. The check engine light has come on, and the car jerks violently when I try to accelerate. I suspect a defective ignition coil and checked the cable and plug connections, but all seems ok. What could it be?

Summary of the thread

A 2012 Renault Twingo with a gasoline engine was experiencing rough running, stalling at idle, and jerking during acceleration, accompanied by a check engine light. The suspected cause was a defective ignition coil, despite initial checks showing cable and plug connections appeared fine. After taking the car to a workshop, it was confirmed that the ignition coil was indeed defective, and repairs resolved the issue, resulting in smooth engine performance and the check engine light turning off.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds familiar. I had something similar happen with my Twingo. Rough running, engine stalling… the whole shebang. Have you checked your spark plugs? It could be a misfire. It's like trying to run a marathon with one shoe untied!

Thanks for the quick reply! You mentioned spark plugs and misfires. Were your symptoms exactly the same? Did the check engine light also appear? And what did you do to fix it?

Yep, check engine light was on, too. Look, it could be a bunch of things, but honestly, with those symptoms, and given that I had almost the exact same issue, I'd get it to a workshop asap. They'll hook it up to a computer and tell you exactly what's wrong. Don't keep driving it like that; it could damage other parts of the engine. It's like ignoring a leaky faucet – eventually, the whole house floods!

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to the workshop, and you were right. It was a defective ignition coil! The cable or plug connection was indeed defective. The repair cost me 95€. Now the car runs smoothly again, and the check engine light is off. I really appreciate your help!
