Ulysee preheating lamp and smoke issue
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Fiat Ulysee diesel had issues with the preheating lamp staying on, the check engine light being illuminated, and smoke during acceleration, particularly from a cold start. Diagnostics suggested a defective glow control unit, possibly due to a faulty cable or plug. It was recommended to check the glow plug relay and its wiring first. The problem was resolved by replacing the defective glow control unit and cleaning the connection, which eliminated the warning lights and smoke issue.

Thanks. What do you mean by 'glow plug relay'? Is that the same as the glow control unit, or something else? Where's it located in the Ulysee? Did you have engine misfire or rough idling when cold starting too?

Yeah, glow plug relay is just another term for the control unit. If the wiring looks good, honestly, I'd just take it to a workshop. It's probably a faulty unit.

Appreciate the confirmation. I took it to a local workshop. The glow control unit was defective, probably from connector corrosion. They replaced it and cleaned the connection, costing 95€. The preheating lamp now works, the check engine light is off, and the smoke is gone. Thanks for the help!

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms with my Ulysee. Check the glow plug relay and its wiring first. Could be a simple fix.
