Ulysee radio antenna error

Radio issue in my 2004 Fiat Ulysee (gasoline engine). The infotainment system keeps throwing up an error message, and the audio just cuts out completely. Sometimes it works fine for a bit, then silence. I've plugged it into a diagnostic tool, and it's showing an error stored in the memory related to the antenna. Could it be a defective antenna? Anyone else experienced something like this?

Summary of the thread

The core problem is a radio issue in a 2004 Fiat Ulysee, where the infotainment system displays an error message, and the audio cuts out intermittently. The diagnostic tool indicates an error related to the antenna, suggesting a possible defective antenna. The suggested solutions include checking the antenna connection for looseness or corrosion and considering professional diagnosis and replacement of the antenna to resolve the issue.

Sounds frustrating! It definitely points to an antenna issue. The error message and audio cutting out are classic symptoms. Have you checked the antenna connection itself? Sometimes it can just be a loose connection or corrosion causing the problem. Also, have you noticed if the signal is worse in certain areas, suggesting a weak FM signal issue rather than a complete failure?

Thanks for the quick reply! I did have a quick look at the antenna base, but didn't see anything obvious like loose wires. To be honest, I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. Where exactly should I be checking the connection? And is there any way to test if it's a weak FM signal, maybe using a signal amplifier or antenna booster?

Okay, so the antenna connection is usually behind the radio unit itself and at the base of the antenna, where the antenna screws into the car body. I'd suggest having a professional take a look, especially if you're not comfortable dismantling the dashboard. Given the age of the car, it could be a corroded connection or a failing antenna. I'd lean towards replacing the antenna entirely rather than messing with signal amplifiers. Workshops usually have tools to diagnose the exact antenna problem. I'd suggest that you go to the workshop to avoid further damage to the system

Thanks a bunch for the advice! I think you're right, it's probably best to just take it to a workshop. I'll let them diagnose the issue and replace the antenna. They said it will be around 255€ - hopefully, that will sort it out. Thanks again for the help!
