Ulysee throttle issue

Fiat Ulysee owners, I need your wisdom. I've got a 2023 Ulysee diesel with about 146k on the clock and I'm running into a weird issue. Seems like my engine throttle is acting up. I'm seeing higher fuel consumption than usual, and it's starting poorly. I've checked the usual suspects, but I'm suspecting a defective accelerator pedal module. Anyone else experienced anything similar? Is it even worth poking around myself, or am I wasting my time without some proper diagnostic tools?

Summary of the thread

A 2023 Fiat Ulysee owner is experiencing issues with the engine throttle, leading to higher fuel consumption and poor starting. The suspected cause is a defective accelerator pedal module. Another owner suggests checking the throttle valve and cleaning the throttle body, as these could also contribute to the problem. Ultimately, the issue is confirmed to be a faulty throttle valve linked to the accelerator pedal module, which is resolved after professional diagnostics and repair.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Higher fuel consumption and poor starts, eh? Sounds awfully familiar. I had a similar problem with my Ulysee. Did you happen to check the throttle valve itself? Wondering if it might be sticking or defective. Could be related to the throttle position sensor, too, playing havoc with the fuel mixture. Have you tried cleaning the throttle body? Just a thought.

Cleaning the throttle body is a good shout, I hadn't got around to it yet. But could a dirty throttle body really cause all those issues? I am leaning towards the accelerator pedal module, given the symptoms. What exactly was the problem with your car, and how did you end up diagnosing it? Was it a pain to fix?

Yeah, a dirty throttle body alone might not cause all those symptoms, especially the poor starting. I'd say it's worth checking though as it's easy and cheap. But given you suspect the accelerator pedal module, and you're getting both issues, it does sound like that could be the culprit. In my case, the symptoms were almost identical. Eventually I caved and took it to a workshop. They confirmed it was the throttle valve giving false readings, and that it was likely due to a faulty accelerator pedal module. Best to get it properly diagnosed to be sure before throwing parts at it.

Thanks for the advice! I think I will do just that. It's always good to hear from someone who's been there. I ended up taking it to the shop, and you were spot on. They ran some diagnostics and confirmed a defective throttle valve. They traced it back to the accelerator pedal module, just like we suspected. 205€ later, and she's running like a champ again! I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience.
