Uneven Engine Jerking Acceleration

Thanks for the quick reply! An exhaust leak... that's something I hadn't considered. Where exactly should I be looking for leaks? Is there a common spot on the Bipper that tends to fail? Also, would a faulty crankshaft sensor cause similar issues? I've heard those can be problematic too.

While a crankshaft sensor issue could present similar symptoms, an exhaust leak is a more probable cause given the information you provided. Focus your inspection on the exhaust manifold, the flex pipe (if equipped), and the joints between exhaust components. Listen for hissing sounds when the engine is running, which may indicate escaping exhaust gases. Given your stated lack of mechanical expertise, I recommend consulting a qualified technician for a thorough diagnosis and repair to avoid potential complications.

Okay, I appreciate the advice! I took it to my local shop, and you were spot on – it was a leak in the exhaust system. They repaired it for 265€, and it runs like new now. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!

Greetings. I have experienced similar issues with my Bipper. Considering the symptoms you describe, namely the check engine light and jerking under acceleration, it is plausible that the fault lies beyond simple maintenance items like the air filter. Have you inspected the exhaust system for any leaks? A breach in the exhaust can cause the engine to run lean, leading to rough idle and hesitation. Moreover, it can trigger the check engine light due to incorrect readings from the oxygen sensors.
