Unsteady engine and loss of power in Mini Clubman 2010: Looking for experience and tips with the tank breather valve

Hey guys, I'm a bit worried about my small car. I drive a 2010 Mini Clubman with a gasoline engine and 139000 km on the clock. Recently the engine warning light came on, the engine power was weaker than usual and it jerks when accelerating. The engine runs unevenly, it even shakes when idling and simply stalls. I think it's due to the faulty tank breather valve. Have any of you had similar problems and can tell me about your experience at the mechanic? I had an unpleasant experience last visit, so I'm looking for pointers on what to look out for this time. Thank you!

Hey, I drive a 2013 Mini Cooper and I had a problem like this once. The symptoms were almost the same as yours, the engine warning light was flashing and the car jerked when accelerating. Last time I was at the garage the ignition coils and injectors needed changing, so I'm afraid it's not a tank breather problem. The first time it almost felt like my car was about to fall apart, it was pretty serious. Take good care of your Clubman there. Hope my experience helps a bit!

Hey, thanks for your feedback! I hadn't thought about ignition coils or injectors, but that makes sense. Do you remember how much you put down for the repair? And have there been any other problems since? My Clubman means a lot to me and I don't want to take any chances.

Hey, sounds like you're being really careful with your Clubman, that's good. Now, to your questions: last time I had it fixed, the cost to fix the faulty fuse/power supply was €52. Not exactly cheap, but sometimes you have to pay for it if you want the car to run smoothly again. By the way, you could be right with your assumption about the faulty tank vent valve. I've been to the mechanic since the last post and he did indeed fix this problem. So, there is nothing wrong with the tank vent valve anymore. So far what they have done is going great - No more problems and the engine is running smoothly again. So you might be thinking in the right direction! Hope that helps you.

Hey, it's really great that you came back here after your visit to the mechanic to share your experience. That really helps! The price of €52 sounds acceptable to me if the car runs smoothly again afterwards. And good to hear that the mechanic also solved the problem with the tank vent valve and everything has been running well since then. I think now I feel ready to take my Clubman to the mechanic. Thanks again for your help and advice. Hope my Mini runs smoothly again soon. Stay healthy and always have a good trip!
