UrbanCruiser Battery Warning Light and Power Loss

My 2011 Toyota UrbanCruiser diesel is giving me grief. It's only done 60688 km! The battery warning light keeps popping up, and I've noticed a definite drop in power. It's struggling to start sometimes, and the lights are flickering. I scanned it and there's an error code related to voltage. Could this be the generator? Anyone else experienced similar issues? What else could it be?

Sounds rough. Had similar drama with my old Opel Astra – turned out to be the alternator. Reduced engine power, the whole shebang. Did you check the voltage regulator?

Voltage regulator, eh? Where exactly is that located, and is it something I could test myself with a multimeter, or am I better off just taking it to a mechanic?

The regulator is usually part of the alternator itself. While you could test it, diagnosing it properly can be tricky without the right gear. Based on those symptoms – especially the error code – it really does sound like the alternator is on its way out. I'd suggest getting it properly tested at a workshop.

I took it to the workshop; you were spot on. Quoted 960€ for a new generator including labor! Guess I'll get it sorted. Appreciate the help!
