UrbanCruiser rough idle and check engine light
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Toyota UrbanCruiser was experiencing rough idling and a check engine light, with jerking during acceleration. Initial concerns included potential issues with the ignition coil, timing belt, or crankshaft sensor. However, it was suggested that an exhaust system leak could be the cause. Upon inspection at a workshop, an exhaust leak was confirmed and repaired, resolving the issue.

Thanks! I hadn't considered an exhaust leak. Would that always trigger the check engine light and store an error? Also, would that cause a rough idle?

Yes, an exhaust leak can trigger the check engine light and cause a rough idle. The engine's sensors detect the change in exhaust composition. If you aren't experienced, take it to a trusted workshop.

Thanks. I took it to the workshop, and you were right. It was a leak in the exhaust system. Repair cost was 265€. Runs smoothly now!

I also have a Toyota UrbanCruiser. Those jerking symptoms sound like an exhaust system leak. Have you looked for cracks or rust around the exhaust manifold or downpipe?
