Urvan Multifunction Steering Wheel Failure
Summary of the thread
The multifunction steering wheel of a 2017 Nissan Urvan stopped working, with all controls unresponsive and an error logged. The suspected cause was a faulty cable connection within the steering wheel. A similar issue in another vehicle was resolved by identifying a broken wire inside the steering wheel. After professional inspection, the problem was confirmed to be a defective cable connection, which was repaired, restoring functionality.

Thanks for the insight! I hadn't considered the slip ring specifically. When you say 'broken wire', do you mean within the clock spring, or somewhere else inside the steering wheel assembly?

In my case, the broken wire was actually inside the steering wheel, where the buttons connect to the main wiring harness. Given that your error is similar, and you suspect a cable connection, it's worth investigating that area. Honestly, though, troubleshooting inside the steering wheel can be tricky and dangerous due to the airbag. If you're not experienced with that, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop.

Appreciate the advice. I took it to the shop and you were spot on. They confirmed a defective cable connection in the steering wheel. Repair cost 95€ and now it works fine.

Interesting. I had a comparable issue with my 2019 Skoda Octavia. Same symptoms: no response from any of the steering wheel controls, plus a logged error. Have you checked the slip ring? That was my initial thought, but in my case, it turned out to be a broken wire within the steering wheel itself. Was it difficult to diagnose the faulty cable connection?
