V Klasse cooling system issue

My 2015 Mercedes V Klasse with a gasoline engine keeps throwing a check engine light and the engine is overheating I scanned it and it shows an active air flap fault Has anyone else dealt with this cooling system issue The repair bill is estimated at 590€

That sounds familiar I had similar symptoms on my V Klasse a check engine light and the car overheating especially in traffic The grille shutter seemed stuck Is yours constantly open or closed For me it was the active air flap electromechanism Did you check the wiring to the actuator or are you just assuming it's the whole unit

I haven't checked the wiring I'll take a look Where exactly is the actuator located And were your symptoms constant or did they come and go before it failed completely

On mine the actuator was right behind the front grille pretty much dead center It's a small black box connected to the grille shutter If you're not super comfortable with auto electrics I'd say just take it to a decent workshop My symptoms were intermittent at first then became permanent If the engine is overheating you really don't want to risk cooking the head gasket It is probably the electromechanism but better to be sure

I took it to the workshop and you were spot on it was the electromechanism for the active air flaps They replaced it the check engine light is gone and the car isn't overheating anymore It cost me 590€ as expected I appreciate the help
