V Klasse diesel rough idle and fuel issue

My 2001 V Klasse diesel is giving me trouble. The check engine light is on, it idles roughly, and feels underpowered. The mileage is 289794 km. I suspect the fuel volume regulator. Does that sound right? Could a bad high pressure pump cause this? Has anyone else had fuel efficiency problems and rough idling related to this? Which sensors usually fail first?

That sounds familiar. My V Klasse had similar symptoms, like reduced engine power and stalling. Have you checked for error codes? It could be related to the fuel pump. Is your fuel consumption higher than usual?

I pulled the codes and they point to the fuel volume regulator. The high pressure pump seems likely. I'm wondering if I should rule anything else out before spending a lot of money. Do you think a workshop is needed?

If you're getting fuel regulator codes and have those symptoms, it's very likely. I went to a workshop, which saved me potential trouble. They confirmed the high pressure pump and the regulator needed replacement. It's not an easy job.

I appreciate the insight. The workshop confirmed the fuel volume regulator was the problem, caused by a faulty high-pressure pump. I paid 1510€ and it's running smoothly. Thanks for the help.
