V Klasse Fuel Pump Issues

My 2000 Mercedes V Klasse diesel is playing up big time It won't start sometimes, then other times it stalls when it's idling The check engine light is also on When it DOES run, it's super rough, and I'm pretty sure I'm using more fuel than usual A local garage said the fuel pump is defective, mentioning a dodgy connection Has anyone had this kind of thing happen Any ideas

I understand your frustration I have a V Klasse as well I experienced similar symptoms some time ago – engine stalling, rough running, and the dreaded check engine light It indeed turned out to be related to the fuel pump However, before condemning the entire pump, have you inspected the cable and plug connections to the pump itself A loose or corroded connection can mimic a pump failure and is a far less expensive fix

I'm not really a car mechanics kind of person, so how do I check the cable and plug connections Is it something obvious, or do I need special tools I'm trying to avoid a massive auto repair bill

While it might appear straightforward, automotive diagnosis can be tricky even for experienced car mechanics If you're not comfortable working on the fuel system, I strongly suggest visiting a qualified workshop Incorrect handling of fuel lines can be dangerous It does sound very similar to the issue I had, and in my case it turned out to be easier to get it repaired in a professional setting

Okay, thanks I really appreciate the advice I'll take it to a proper mechanic The garage quoted about 95€ for fixing the cable or plug connection Hopefully, that's all it is
