V Klasse gear shift issues

My 2013 Mercedes V Klasse Diesel has a gear shift indicator display fault, making it impossible to engage gears. The automatic transmission shifts implausibly, sometimes slipping or shifting uncleanly, with audible grinding noises during shifts. An error is stored, and the gear selection display is non-functional. Could this be a sensor problem or a larger automotive electronics issue, maybe with the gear shift, selector, or shift knob? The estimated repair cost is 1000€

Oh man, that sounds rough! I had something similar happen with my V Klasse. The gear shift was acting all kinds of crazy, like it had a mind of its own. I remember getting super frustrated because I couldn't figure out what was going on. Was it making weird noises too? Mine was making this awful grinding sound sometimes. Did you check the error codes?

Indeed, the symptoms you describe align closely with my own experience. When you encountered this issue, did the gear selection display also fail to function? Could you elaborate on the specific nature of the error codes you observed?

Yep, the gear selection display was totally dead. It was like the whole thing just gave up. Honestly, I didn't mess around with it too much. I took it straight to a workshop and they sorted it out. They mentioned something about a faulty control unit, if I remember correctly. Best to get it checked out by professionals, you know?
