V Klasse parking assist malfunction

My 2002 Mercedes V Klasse with a diesel engine has a parking aid fault. The parking assistant is completely non-functional, and the error memory is registering an error. I suspect a defective cable or plug connection, affecting obstacle detection, proximity sensors, ultrasonic sensors, or blind spot sensors. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Summary of the thread

A 2002 Mercedes V Klasse is experiencing a parking assist malfunction, with the system being completely non-functional and an error registered in the memory. The suspected causes include a defective cable or plug connection, affecting various sensors. Suggested solutions include checking fuses, inspecting sensors for dirt, and considering professional diagnosis for potential corroded connectors, as similar issues have been resolved by replacing faulty connectors.

Parking assist giving you grief? I've got a V Klasse too, and I remember something similar. Is it completely dead, like no beeps when you put it in reverse or approach an obstacle? Did you check the fuses? It seems basic, but I chased a similar problem before realizing a fuse had blown. Also, have you looked at the sensors themselves? Sometimes they get caked in dirt and grime, which messes with their readings. Which sensors did the error memory point towards?

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, it's completely dead, no beeps. I did check the fuses, all seem to be okay. I visually inspected the sensors, they appear clean, but I haven't tested them individually. When you had a similar issue, did the error memory specifically point to a sensor, or was it more of a general parking assist fault message?

Right, completely dead, sounds familiar. Mine was giving a general error, didn't pinpoint a specific sensor. I messed about checking wiring looms, but honestly, after a while I gave in and took it to a workshop. They diagnosed it as a corroded connector on one of the sensors. The connector was replaced. If you've checked the obvious things, and the error is still there, it might be worth getting it properly diagnosed before you start replacing parts.

Appreciate the insights. Sounds like a corroded connector is a common issue. I will take it to the workshop next week. They quoted me around 95€ for checking the cables and connectors, which seems reasonable, so I'll get them to investigate. Thanks again for sharing your experience!
