Thanks for the quick response! I don't have the exact error codes, but the mechanic mentioned it pointed towards the motor in the calliper. Did you end up replacing the entire calliper, or just the motor itself?

In my case, a complete calliper replacement was necessary. While replacing only the motor may seem like a more economical solution, it is often difficult to source the component separately, and the long-term reliability can be questionable. Moreover, issues with the motor may precipitate further damage within the calliper assembly. Given the potential implications for vehicle safety, I would advise adhering to the recommendation of your mechanic and replacing the entire calliper assembly. A competent workshop should be able to accomplish this task efficiently.

Appreciate the advice! I had the calliper replaced today, and the parking brake is working perfectly again. Cost was as quoted, so no surprises there. Thanks for confirming my suspicions and the advice regarding vehicle safety!

I also drive a V Klasse, though I cannot speak for the 2005 model specifically. I encountered a similar issue with the electronic parking brake. The symptoms you describe align with my experience. Brake failure in these systems can often be attributed to a faulty brake sensor or the electric motor as you suspected. Has the system been thoroughly checked for related faults? What were the exact error codes retrieved during the brake diagnostics?
