V40 belt handover issue

I'm writing about a potential issue with my 2012 Volvo V40 diesel, which has about 178,000 kilometers on it. The belt handover doesn't seem to function correctly. Could a defective belt tensioner be the cause? I've also noticed some unusual engine noise recently.

That sounds familiar. I had a similar problem with my V40 some time ago. Was the noise you experienced like a belt squeal, maybe intermittent? How's the tensioner pulley itself; does it seem to be running smoothly, or is it wobbling?

Thanks, yes, the noise does resemble a belt squeal. I haven't inspected the tensioner pulley closely enough to see if it's wobbling. Is it likely the entire belt tensioner needs replacing, even if the pulley seems alright?

In my case, the issue was the belt bringer/handover itself, part of the tensioner assembly. I'd recommend having a mechanic look at it. I paid around 455€ for the repair. Getting a quote beforehand might be a good idea.

I appreciate the information. Consulting a mechanic seems prudent. Thanks for confirming my suspicions and sharing your experience. I will post the outcome here.
