V40 diesel check engine light crankshaft issue

I'm having issues with my 2012 Volvo V40 diesel. The check engine light is on, and the car has lost power. Engine response is terrible, and I'm burning more fuel. A local garage said a 'crankshaft to camshaft reference value' is off. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm worried it could be the timing belt.

I had a similar issue with my V40 (mine's a petrol). Check engine light and poor performance. It was the crankshaft sensor.

Thanks for the tip! How did you figure out it was the crankshaft sensor? Did the garage diagnose it, or did you do some DIY checks?

Workshop diagnosed it. They said the reference value was all over the place. Cost about 340€ for the part and labor.

Okay, thanks! I'll ask the garage to specifically check the crankshaft sensor. Fingers crossed it's that simple. Appreciate the help!
