V40 Electrical System Errors

My 2017 Volvo V40, gasoline engine, is acting possessed. Error messages, dead navigation, and a wonky electrical system. The garage suspects a software fault and reprogramming the control unit is implausible. Has anyone else seen this?

Sounds familiar! I've got a V40, and I had similar gremlins a while back. Error codes popping up, random electrical hiccups. Was anything specific happening when the problems started, or did it just suddenly appear?

Nah, nothing specific happened. One day it was fine; the next, it was like the car decided to have a meltdown. Did you manage to fix it yourself, or did you have to take it to a shop?

Definitely take it to a reputable workshop. Given the symptoms and the garage's diagnosis of a potentially implausible programming of the control unit, it points towards needing professional diagnostics and a possible software reset. Messing with the ECU software without the right equipment can brick the whole system. It matches my experience; in the end, I had to get the control unit software reflashed.

Cheers for the advice! Looks like I'm heading back to the workshop then. They quoted around 240€ to sort it, so hopefully that does the trick. Fingers crossed!
