V40 Exhaust Flap Issue

I'm having trouble with my 2017 Volvo V40 gasoline. The exhaust flaps aren't working. I get an error in the memory, the exhaust is louder than usual, and the engine is noisy after a cold start. Seems like the exhaust flap is defective?

Hmm, sounds familiar. I've got a V40 too, and had a similar issue. Louder exhaust was the first thing I noticed. It's like when you accidentally poke a hole in your exhaust using a screwdriver. Did you check the flap actuator?

The actuator? I haven't checked that specifically. Is it easy to get to? What should I be looking for?

Yeah, it should be reasonably accessible, but honestly, unless you're really comfortable with that sort of thing, I'd suggest getting it checked by a workshop. I ended up having to do that, it was the flap itself that was buggered. Not worth the hassle if you're not sure. Could be a simple fix or something more involved.

Thanks! I appreciate the advice. I took it to the workshop, and you were right – the exhaust flap was defective. Cost me 190€ to replace. Runs like a charm now!
